Cruise Ship Review – Eclipse Celebrity Cruises

December 21st, 2010

I am writing this post while on my return flight to the United States, after spending the last two weeks (14 nights) aboard the Celebrity Eclipse. Founded in April 2010, Celebrity Eclipse combines award-winning family of "Solstice-class ships, currently the Celebrity Solstice, the Equinox in 2011, and the silhouette. So, although I will try to maintain total objectivity, I must admit that I put on the Eclipse with very high expectations.Fortunately, with few exceptions (as described below), I was not disappointed.

The 'hardware'

In discussing the physical properties of a cruise ship (ie, is the appearance and layout), industry professionals often refer to the "ship" of hardware. So let's start there.

To 122 000 tons (the largest in the Celebrity fleet), the Eclipse circumvent surprisingly light and even at full capacity of 2,850 passengers (double occupancy), theShip never felt crowded. To be honest, my first impression of the interior, which is a little 'simple' it was like the old days on board, I have come to appreciate more and more. In accordance with the position of fame in the industry as a premium "Cruise Line" view of mass-market "or" luxury "), and the total (as opposed to" feel "of Eclipse is that I" described as "sober elegance. Unlike the "cheap Glamour" or "pretentious opulence" I've heard of some other shipsseen the inside of Eclipse seemed to be deliberately overlooked by the designers so that the guests (including myself) would feel at home while living in their luxury home at sea. Colors in the main lobby were soft and easily, while other public areas and lounges (including Club and Michael Butler) in deep natural wood tones with luxurious furniture and carpets were decorated.

Corridors and stairs were wide enough for side-by-Side PassageGuests and we had to wait more often one or two minutes for an elevator. The public bathrooms were spotless, and they were always well stocked with small disposable cloth towels (instead of paper or hot air dryer).

The swimming pool and deck areas were large enough that the search for a comfortable chaise longue was never a problem. But the rate of jogging track (or "path" for those of us who are older than 60) across the billiard room (something like a"Obstacle course") and did not go completely around the ship.

Perhaps the feature of the 'hardware' ship of the "Lawn Club" was. I must admit that a negative preconceived notion (based on the photos and descriptions I've seen) may have clouded my expectations. But after he played only a few minutes of watching fellow passengers or croquet in the sun on the lawn finely treated, I realized that the photos of this area in the brochures Celebrityand television advertising is not to grasp is peaceful serenity. I liked it!

The Food

Since all the restaurants offer a variety of dining options, an assessment of food is not only influenced by personal taste, but also choose which items from the menu. Scenario is more evident than at the Venetian specialty restaurant on board the Eclipse. My wife ordered the filet mignon, while my cousin, Mike was the calf. Both starters were without doubt the bestof this type we've ever tasted …. everywhere! On the other hand, the fish (Mediterranean Sea Bass) and the cousin of my friend Janet, and I was ordained, at best fair.

More significant was the dinner we had at the specialty restaurant, the Tuscan Grille. Although filet mignon was not good (in our opinion), as in Murano (even if the grid Tuscan announced as "a steakhouse with an Italian touch), all of our starters were in their own way, very well.

The specialtyRestaurant, quisine, we had a lot of fun sampling a variety of unique appetizers and side dishes, each described in a menu of the iPod.

The large dining room, the moonlight sonata, offered a variety of dishes every night, good to excellent, with very few disappointments. We especially liked the choice of food options, the boats had a good start regulated by two sets down on the more traditional cruise. And we were always able to get a table for four bythe window, as we asked.

The service

A perception of passenger cruise service on board is so often depends on their cabin crew member and was waiters / waitresses served meals in. So, at best, any assessment of the service shall be taken only as a generalization based on limited personal experiences while on board.

After this part of my previous review (to "cover my tail", if the reader has a different experience), I would say that myWife and I found the service to be excellent. Our cabin steward (Violetta Rodriguez and David Campbell) were the best team we drive all we had (and have taken many cruises). The restaurant staff was competent and professional in all restaurants. There were also some nice little 'extra touch ", as you welcome back on board with a welcome back and a soft drink," Spritz "spray fresh after a long day of excursions. However, one of the things IMost estimated the targeted use of public announcements. After the master of positioning and weather updates every morning was the sound system nearly silent the rest of the day. It was not loud announcements on the next round of bingo jackpot or special offers "on jewelry. If you are interested in these things, time and place of all activities and events on board are clearly identified in the daily calendar, which was allowed in the cabin the night before.Having learned to read when I was at first was great, I did not miss the ads a bit 'annoying.

The conversation

If there is one area in which disappointed my experiences aboard the Celebrity Eclipse me (and my traveling companion), it was fun. More specifically, production style Broadway shows (I've seen countless times before on other cruise ships) were the most fair and totally uninspired at worst. This does not mean that the individualThe performers were not so talented (although I've seen better). It 's just to say I found this as the "Song and Dance" as a "cheese", repetitive and somehow a bit' amateurish. The exception to this was the last show (titled "Eclipse"), who presented some great sets with acrobatics and great special effects. The variety of shows (jugglers, magicians, comedians, etc.) were generally good.

Exposure to high glass-blowing was sponsored, in my opinion, it moves slowlyand boring. Although the moderators of the Corning Glass Museum were obviously very skilled in their craft and dedicated to their work, I was not too keen to spend almost an hour to watch a glass jar in progress. In fact, at some point during the show, he turned to me and my wife said, "What am I?". Ironically, the exhibition was highly recommended to us by one of our employees, who saw him at the solstice. So do not take my word. See, forthemselves.

The State Rooms

Like every modern cruise ship, Celebrity Eclipse offers a wide selection of accommodation ranging from the cheapest inside cabins (without windows), deluxe rooms with a personal butler. Of course if you were a guest in one of the spacious suites have a different experience living in a cabin as a much smaller inside cabin so once again I checked my car warns the reader that is based on my prefacespecific experience (which may not hold for other types of accommodation on the true Eclipse).

My wife and I chose (as we do more often) an average price of a standard cabin with a balcony, which was more than enough for us. The decor was nice and soft. The bed was very comfortable and none of us had trouble sleeping. The bathroom was a nice size, but the shower was not the extension of the hand (we had to make your body a bit 'to moveto himself all washed). It 'been a bit' less space than we would on a 14-night cruise liked, but overall we were very pleased with our standard balcony cabin accommodation.

Conclusion

After taking over 30 cruises in the past 15 years were women in business, my and I'm always looking for something special when a new cruise ship is on the market. And that's exactly what we got with Celebrity Eclipse. On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being the unmatched quality of being absolutely perfect in every way), we give them an overall score of 8.5 to 9 We can not wait to book our cruise on the Celebrity brand new silhouette (twin Eclipse) when they travel round-trip begins in the Caribbean from Cape Liberty, New Jersey in 2011.
